Delight: Breaking ground

17/02/07  ||  Lord K Philipson

Rumors has it that Delight’s the first band from Poland to get signed to Roadrunner. Good for them since they are a half-metal thing and Roadrunner is a half-metal label. The reason I discovered this band is thanx to Polish staffer Rafal, for which I’m thankful. He said something along the lines of “I know you like bands with chicks singing. You should check out Poland’s Delight. They sound nothing like Darzamat or anything and are said to appeal to fans of Evanescence and the likes”. Well, Raf obviously knows me, which means he’s definitely got his head on his shoulders.

Thanks, Raf.

I take quite a bit of liking in Delight. Sometimes more, sometimes less. The resemblance to said Evanescence isn’t far-fetched at all. There are similarities, but Delight’s not a washed up copy or anything, they have their own thing going (if you can be just that while being completely mainstream). Radio-friendly as fuck and beautifully executed for most parts. They have a tendency to become a bit boring at times (the slower songs), but generally speaking this is a good fucken band who are bound for some success, being on Roadpenis Records and all.

Sometimes they get everything right, like in the quite superb track “All alone”. A tune that definitely makes me hard all over. I completely adore that verse and the chicks voice is playful and perfectly up front. I really, really fucken dig. Definitely one of the highlights of the album.

Delight sounds very American, which should come as no surprise. The chick handles the pronunciations all fine (not a common thing when it comes to Polish inhabitants) and there’s not much to get yer balls in a bunch for. The production is ace and the bottom line is that Delight is doing their thing all fine, even if it’s not anything remotely groundbreaking nor special. This is the first time I ever hear something from Poland that sounds like this, and never did I think that country was able to produce something other than brutal and technical death metal. Nice work, Poland.

But to round this off… Naming a song “Emotune” should be punished by a lifetime of constant listening to Darzamat’s “Into the abyss of forgotten woods” (haha, yeah, that’s one scary abyss, you FUCKEN IDIOTS!), and especially this Einstein-verse:

“Speak to me and forgive me. One night I met a tree. Tired and bläääääddddding. I sit near by. I’m listening to her cry”.

Classic, classic shit, hahaha… Fuck off.

Delight gets 7 “I wanna pee in Amy Lee’s butt” out of 10.

Note: I think I read something about Delight being assisted by some drummer from The Devin Townsend Band during this recording. I can’t be arsed to check for that so I’ll just list the drummer who’s at their official site. Like it fucken matters. No one cares about the drummer in a band like this. It’s all about tits, ass and nice vocals.
